Borongan City to implement stricter health measures as COVID-19 cases rise

TACLOBAN CITY – Authorities in Borongan City called for stricter implementation of health protocols following an increase of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the city.

According to the Provincial Health Office in Eastern Samar, a community transmission was noted in Borongan City after the majority of the infections were considered as “local cases” or having contracted COVID-19 within their respective localities.

At present, the city has 90 COVID-19 cases with two deaths.

The health office has appealed to local residents to follow all the health protocols like the mandatory wearing of face masks and face shields and observance of the one-meter distancing rule.

Vulnerable groups like the elderly, pregnant women and those with existing illnesses are asked not to go out of their homes.

The regional office of the Department of Health (DOH) announced 134 new cases on Sunday, bringing the cases in Eastern Visayas to 12,907.
