COVID-19 cases in PH breach 500K mark

MANILA, Philippines — The number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases in the Philippines breached the 500,000 mark on Sunday after the Department of Health (DOH) logged more than 1,800 new cases.

In its update on January 17, Sunday, the DOH said the total COVID-19 cases in the country is now at 500,577. Of the figure, 24,691 remain active.

The DOH added that there are also 5,868 new recoveries, bringing the total of those who have recovered from the disease to 465,991.

The death toll, meanwhile, stands at 9,895 after the health department logged 11 new fatalities.

Of the newly reported cases, 107 are from Davao City, 106 are from Quezon City, 65 are from Isabela, 63 are from Pampanga, and 63 are from Bulacan.

Further, of the active cases, 84.6 percent are considered mild, 6.6 percent are asymptomatic, 5.3 percent are critical, 3 percent are severe, and 0.47 percent is moderate.
