China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi visits Duterte in Malacañang

MANILA, Philippines — China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a courtesy call to President Rodrigo Duterte at Malacañang on Saturday, hours after his meeting with his Philippine counterpart, Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Wang earlier said that China would donate 500,000 COVID-19 vaccine shots to augment the Philippines’ immunization program, but he did not mention which company would provide the vaccines.

In his meeting with Locsin in Taguig this Saturday, Wang underscored the beneficial coordination between China and the Philippines in addressing the pandemic.

The Chinese diplomat arrived in the Philippines on Friday, Jan. 15. He is expected to stay until this Saturday.
