ILIGAN CITY—A fire that raged for over an hour gutted on Saturday a commercial building that was partitioned for seven business establishments in the village of Tibanga here.
Major Butch Baulete, city fire marshal, told Inquirer they first received a fire alarm at around 10:24 a.m.
The blaze was put off past noon with 14 deployed firetrucks including those of the Holcim cement factory.
Baulete said they are looking into the possibility the fire could have started in the kitchen of a restaurant located in the building.
Initial information showed that there was already cooking activity in the said restaurant’s kitchen at the time the fire broke out, Baulete added.
He called on business establishments, which are currently renewing their permits with the local government, to always be conscious of fire safety protocols to avoid similar accidents.
