Olongapo police chief fired over meth lab

OLONGAPO CITY – The police chief of this city was removed from his position on Friday after four of his men were arrested for allegedly protecting the operation of a clandestine “shabu” (crystal meth) inside the Subic Bay Freeport.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon, Central Luzon police director, cited “command responsibility” in his order to relieve Col. Randy Arceo effective Friday, Jan. 15.

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Lt. Reynato Basa, Jr. Police and Corporals Gino Dela Cruz, Edesyr Victor Alipio and Godfrey Parentela during the raid of the kitchen-type shabu laboratory at dawn on Friday.

De leon also ordered the dismantling of the drug enforcement unit of the police station 2 where the suspects belonged.
