PNP: 2 Bicol residents went to countries with COVID-19 UK variant

LEGAZPI CITY — Two Bicol residents are among the 37 individuals who had travelled to countries with reported cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) variant.

A police report said the two residents from this city and Pili town in Camarines Sur, both females, were subjected to contact tracing.

Police Colonel Rodelon Betita, Legazpi City police chief, in a phone interview Saturday, said the female overseas worker from this city is currently in a government-designated quarantine hotel in Muntinlupa City undergoing the mandatory 14-days quarantine while awaiting the swab test result.

Police Brigadier General Bartolome Bustamante, Bicol police chief, on Thursday issued a directive to locate the two residents from Albay and Camarines Sur after their names were included in the list of individuals who had travel histories in countries affected by new COVID-19 variant, specifically the United Kingdom (UK) variant.

Noemi Bron, public affairs chief of the Department of Health (DOH) in Bicol, said they are still waiting for the report as to where the resident of Camarines Sur was taken for quarantine.

She assured, however, that contact tracing has been made as part of the required health protocols for overseas Filipino workers when they arrive in the country.
