ILIGAN CITY—A former staff member of the Iligan City Anti-Drug Abuse Council was arrested in a buy-bust operation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) late on Thursday (Jan. 14).
Agent Neil Pabilona, assistant provincial officer of PDEA in Lanao del Norte, identified the former ant-drug council staffer as Wilrap Losorata, 28, of Luinab village.
Pabilona said Losorata had been under surveillance for several months after his alleged involvement in the drug trade had been revealed by suspects who have been previously arrested.
Siezed from Losorata during the operation was five sachets of suspected crystal meth weighing around eight grams and worth an estimated P54,400.
Losorata worked last year as facilitator of the anti-drug council’s facility-based drug rehabilitation program inside the city jail, according to Orlando Carrasco, council administration officer.
He stopped reporting for duty last October.
After he was identified by the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council as a drug pusher, former colleagues convinced him to enrol in the Balay Silangan Reformatory Center so he can be given the opportunity to mend his ways.
“He was all set to enrol in the program,” Carrasco said. “He was already there but when he learned that he needed to be body-searched, he immediately backed out,” Carrasco added.
