DIGOS CITY –– Two people died while three others were injured after a truck loaded with vegetables fell into a deep ravine in the village of Binaton here around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13.
Lt. Col. Vici Anthony Tababa, acting city police chief, said the truck was negotiating a downhill stretch from the village of Kapatagan toward Digos City when its driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed it into an abandoned house.
The vehicle then plunged into a deep ravine. The two truck helpers, who were riding at the back, died instantly due to the heavy impact.
The driver and two passengers in the truck’s cab suffered serious injuries. Rescuers from the city disaster management office brought them to the Davao del Sur provincial hospital.
Tababa identified those killed as Junel A. Vargas, 32, and Celso M. Acam, 19, both residents of Bansalan town, Davao del Sur.
The bodies of Acam and Vargas were brought to the Mariscal Funeral Homes in Digos City.
Those injured were truck driver Erwin Royales Bernardo, 42, of Zamboanga City; Junnide P. Pansoy, 39, pf Bansalan, Davao del Sur; and Jade Morales, 19, of Magsaysay Davao del Sur.
The police reported that the truck was wrecked and could not be easily salvaged due to the depth of the ravine where it fell.
The Mitsubishi Canter truck bearing plate number JAD-3886 was registered under the name of Jo Randie Dunque of Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City.
