MANILA, Philippines — The tail-end of a frontal system will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the eastern sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas on Thursday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Based on the weather forecast issued by Pagasa at 4 a.m., the Bicol region, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan),  Central Visayas, Western Visayas, Quezon and Northern Samar will be affected by the tail-end of a frontal system.

The tail-end of a frontal system is the boundary where cold winds from the northeast monsoon and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean converge, according to Pagasa.

“Sa boundary na ‘yan ay nabubuo ang makakapal na kaulapan na nagdudulot ng halos tuloy-tuloy na pag-ulan at kalakip din diyan ang mga thunderstorms o pagkidlat at pagkulog,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz said.

(In this boundary, thick clouds form, causing rains and thunderstorms.)

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains to Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.

Dela Cruz said no storm is expected to form in the Philippine area of responsibility in the next 24 to 36 hours.
