MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo’s office continues its livelihood assistance projects as it turned over materials to a group of Bulacan sewers, who were tapped to make personal protective equipment (PPEs).

According to the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Robredo led the hand over of PPE materials on Wednesday at Sta. Maria, Bulacan. The project, OVP said, will benefit sewers and urban poor groups in the towns of Sta. Maria, Meycauayan, and San Jose del Monte.

OVP noted the PPEs that would be produced by the Bulacan sewers will be given to healthcare workers and other front liners in the country’s COVID-19 fight.

This is not the first community tapped by OVP to create PPEs for front liners. According to OVP’s expenditure reports as of December 2020, part of the P12.98 million OVP funds allocated to the COVID-19 response was used to buy local PPEs.

Another P5.111 million, this time coming from donations, was also used to procure locally-made PPEs.

“The OVP has been supporting various communities and sectors around the Philippines through livelihood subsidies. It expanded such efforts to Metro Manila and nearby provinces, in light of the dire effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on communities in need,” OVP said.
