Duterte appoints ex-police general as Clark body head

CLARK FREEPORT—President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a retired police general, Manuel Gaerlan, as new president and chief executive director of the Clark Development Corp. (CDC), a state company.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea announced the President’s appointment of Gaerlan in a Jan. 11 letter to the CDC board of directors.

CDC is one of the agencies converting lands formerly leased by the United States military in Pampanga and Tarlac.

The letter was furnished Gregorio Garcia III, chair of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, and Samuel Dagpin Jr., chair of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned and Controlled Corporations.

Gaerlan was a CDC director before he was nominated to fill in the shoes of Noel Manankil who resigned as president and chief executive officer in October 2020.

Gaerlan is scheduled to take his oath on Jan. 14.

A graduate of the Philippine Military Academy in 1985, he retired in 2018 as a general heading the police in the Davao region.
