MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Tourism’s (DOT) decision on its investigation into City Garden Grand Hotel in Makati City, which hosted a New Year’s revelry that later led to the death of flight attendant Christine Dacera, will be out this week, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said Tuesday.
“I was hoping sana to give the decision today but we’re still finalizing it. This week we will be giving it,” Puyat said in a press conference.
The agency earlier gave a show-cause order against the establishment, directing the hotel’s management to submit a written explanation within three days why its DOT accreditation should not be revoked with regard to the incident involving Dacera.
The hotel serves as a quarantine facility for migrant workers, putting it directly under the jurisdiction of the DOT.
An “accommodation establishment in areas declared under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) that is concurrently being used as a quarantine facility may not provide accommodation for leisure purposes, ” the letter read.
The establishment, according to Puyat, responded to the show-cause order last Friday.
Puyat added that the DOT’s decision on the investigation “cannot be rushed.”
“But rest assured, the DOT will do what is fair and just,” the secretary said.
