Box with 12 grenades found in front of condo

The discovery on Tuesday of a boxful of hand grenades in front of a condominium in Pasig City is not part of a terror plot, according to a police official. “There is no cause for alarm,” Senior Superintendent Jessie Cardona, Pasig police chief, said Wednesday. He added that the grenades were probably owned by a former military man who wanted to get rid of these but did not know how to dispose of the explosives properly.  A dozen 40 mm high-explosive grenades packed into a box were found by a garbage collector around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in a trash bin in front of Villa Regina Condominium in Barangay (village) Bambang. The grenades, which according to the police are usually issued to military men, looked old. Cardona said that the owner of the grenades probably got rid of the explosives because he was afraid that these might explode. The explosives have been turned over by the police to members of the Explosives and Ordnance Division of the Eastern Police District for proper disposal.—Niña Calleja
