Mandaluyong signs deal with AstraZeneca, nat’l gov’t for COVID vaccines

MANILA, Philippines — The city government of Mandaluyong has inked a tripartite agreement with British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca and the national government for the procurement of vaccines against COVID-19.
In a text message to INQUIRER.net on Monday, Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita “Menchie” Abalos said the city was the first among local government units to sign a deal for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines from AstraZeneca.
“We saw the urgency of the matter and had to act fast,” she said.
But the mayor refused to disclose information on the number of doses and the amount involved in the agreement.
The city government earlier announced it has set aside P200 million for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines for its constituents.
