MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government announced on Monday it has closed a deal for the acquisition of 800,000 COVID-19 vaccines under a tripartite agreement with the National Task Force against COVID-19, Department of Health, and British-Swedish pharmaceutical firm AstraZeneca.
The Manila City Public information Office (PIO) announced this in a Facebook post, as other local government units earlier revealed they have also inked deals with AstraZeneca for the acquisition of the vaccines.
Meanwhile, Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso has also signed documents for the acquisition of 12 refrigeration units for the COVID-19 vaccines, according to Manila PIO.
The refrigeration units are capable of storing vaccines from brands such as Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Janssen, Novavax and Sinovac, among others.
Domagoso has also signed documents for the acquisition of 50 transport cooler units for the vaccines, the Manila PIO added.
He said the storage units, which will be delivered “in the coming months,” can store around 300,000 doses of COVID-19 shots “in a given time.”
The mayor earlier announced that the local government will build a new storage facility for the COVID-19 vaccines soon.
