/ 07:57 AM January 11, 2021
Pagasa Weather Update logo  MANILA, Philippines — Cool weather and light rains will prevail in Luzon while Visayas and Mindanao will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa, in its  4 a.m. weather update, said the northeast monsoon is affecting weather conditions in Luzon, while the tail-end of a frontal system is affecting the Visayas, and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in Mindanao.

(The northeast monsoon continues to affect the entire Luzon. Wind coming from mainland China is causing cooler weather cold and light rains.)

The northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains to Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bicol region, Aurora and Quezon.

It will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains to Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

(Meanwhile, the tail-end of a frontal system is the area where the cold winds from the northeast monsoon and warm winds from the Pacific Ocean. When these winds converge, it causes thunderstorms.)

The ITCZ, on the other hand, is where winds coming from the northern and southern hemisphere converge, bringing clouds that cause rains in affected areas.
