Cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Visayas and the provinces of Palawan, Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands on Monday due to the effect of the tailend of a frontal system, the government weather service said on Sunday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the northeast monsoon will also bring light rain across Metro Manila and most parts of Luzon.
Chris Perez, senior weather specialist of Pagasa, said the frontal system is the interaction of cold winds from the northeast monsoon and warm winds from the tropics.
This often results in thunderstorms, he said in the weather forecast on Sunday afternoon.
Residents in areas affected by the tailend of the frontal system should be alert to possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rain, Pagasa said.
Those in the regions of Cagayan, Cordillera and Bicol, as well as in the provinces of Aurora and Quezon, should also prepare their umbrellas for light rain brought by the northeast monsoon.
The prevailing monsoon, which is expected to last until February, will continue to bring lower temperatures across the country, Perez said.
This week, Metro Manila can experience temperatures only as high as 31 degrees Celsius, which can also drop to a low of 23 degrees. INQ
