TACLOBAN CITY – Non-stop rains triggered floods and landslides in some areas in Eastern Visayas on Sunday.
No casualties were reported.
In Jipapad town, Eastern Samar, a still undetermined number of families were evacuated by the local government unit as flood waters rise.
“The evacuees are currently staying at the municipal hall, churches, and barangay halls,” said Josefina Titong, provincial disaster risk reduction management officer.
She said they will distribute food aid to families that were affected by the flood.
Titong said floods also affected Oras and Arteche towns, while a minor landslide was reported in Barangay Binalonan in Taft town.
In Samar province, minor landslides were reported in Barangay Catalina of Jiabong town and in Barangay Lokilokon of Paranas town, making some roads impassable.
In Northern Samar, power was cut off to avoid incidents of electrocution.
