PH COVID-19 count now at 487,690 with 1,906 new infections

MANILA, Philippines — The COVID-19 caseload in the country increased to 487,690 on Sunday after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 1,906 new infections.

Of the total, 20,087 cases are considered active, the DOH said in its daily case bulletin.

Majority or 83% of the active cases have mild symptoms, 5.8% are asymptomatic, 3.7% are having severe symptoms, while 6.8% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, 8,592 new recoveries brought the total to 458,198, while the death toll rose to 9,405 after eight patients died.

Quezon City registered the most number of new coronavirus infections with 121 cases, followed by Benguet (84), Davao City (82), Cavite (79), and Bulacan (75).

DOH said it removed 13 duplicates from the total case count, of which seven are recovered cases, while one is a fatality.

Meanwhile, two cases previously tagged as recoveries are reclassified as deaths.

Five labs were not able to submit their data on Jan. 9.
