LUCENA CITY — At least four suspected bet collectors for the illegal operation of Small Town Lottery (STL) called “bookies” were arrested in police operations in Sariaya and Tiaong town in Quezon province on Saturday, police said.
Anti-illegal gambling operatives arrested Gregoria Rocha, Juanito Marasigan, and Gilbert Panopio while collecting and accounting money bets in separate occasions in Barangay (village) Concepcion Banahaw in Sariaya on Saturday afternoon, said a report from the Quezon police office.
Seized from the suspects, who are all residents of Sariaya, were STL “lastillas” or bet collection forms, paraphernalia, and money bets of different denominations.
In Tiaong, policemen also collared Reymark Ramirez while gathering money bets in Barangay Cabay around 7:10 p.m.
Police said the four suspects failed to produce legitimate identification cards issued by Pirouette Gaming Corp., the licensed STL operator in the province, which showed they were engaged in the illegal operation of the state-sanctioned lottery.
