DENR to provide local goverments with shredders, composters
MANILA, Philippines — To help them comply with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) plans to provide all local governments within the Manila Bay area with shredding and composting machines which will process biodegradable wastes from dumps and landfills.
“Sad to say, compliance is slow particularly where local governments lack the means for full and prompt compliance,” said Benny Antiporda, DENR undersecretary for solid waste management and local government concerns.
“This is where the DENR steps in,” he said.
The DENR plans to provide industrial grade machines to local governments in the Manila Bay area, including cities in the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bataan, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Rizal and Tarlac. Each set will include a composter and a shredder.
