Cops nab one of two suspects in slay of nurse in Bukidnon

ILIGAN CITY——-Police arrested on Friday one of the two suspects in the killing of a 35-year-old nurse in Valencia City, Bukidnon on Jan. 4.

Lt. Col. Cipriano Bazar, Valencia city police chief, said policemen were able to locate Jason Jamero, 20, in a construction site in the village of Candelaria in San Fernando town, Bukidnon where he works as a laborer.

Jamero, a resident of Batangan village, Valencia City, was suspected to have killed Soriano Moreno, a nurse at the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital in Kalilangan town.

Moreno was found dead inside a lodging house in Valencia City on the morning of Jan. 4, with stab wounds in different parts of his body. He checked in the night before and was joined by two male companions.

According to Bazar, policemen recovered from Jamero’s possession the cellular phone of the victim.

A witness also pointed to Jamero as the one who abandoned Moreno’s motorcycle in Bangcud village, Malaybalay City, Bazar added.

The motorcycle disappeared from the parking lot of the lodging house last Jan. 4. It was found in Bangcud on Jan. 7.

Bazar said Moreno’s professional ID was found in a riverbank in San Fernando town and was turned over to the police by a concerned citizen.

Bazar further said that a knife allegedly used in killing Moreno was found in Jamero’s residence.

Bazar added that Jamero and Moreno, who are friends, had an altercation although he did not disclose the nature of the quarrel.

Moreno was buried on Friday in his hometown of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur.
