Beach resorts in Leyte town ordered closed

TACLOBAN CITY –– Beach resorts in a Leyte town were ordered closed, while officials and employees of the Borongan City government were required to undergo a swab test twice a month.

Mayor Lemuel Gin Traya of Abuyog town in Leyte said the move aims  to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

A liquor ban was also imposed across Abuyog that has 85 COVID-19 cases with two deaths.

In Borongan City, Mayor Jose Ivan Daya Agda issued an executive order on Thursday, directing all city government officials and employees to undergo a rapid antigen swab test to be conducted by the City Health Office twice a month.

Meanwhile, the provincial government of Samar has set aside P25 million for the procurement of anti-COVID vaccines, while the city government of Catbalogan has prepared P20 million.

Maasin City in Southern Leyte has also allotted P15 million to immunize its people.

The city’s vaccination program prioritizes health workers, senior citizens, uniformed personnel, teachers, poor families, and other persons considered frontliners.

The Department of Health in the region reported on Friday that Eastern Visayas has 127 new patients, increasing its total number of COVID-19 cases to 11,846.
