MANILA, Philippines — The Manila City government has suspended government work and classes in all levels for both public and private schools on Saturday, Jan. 9.

In his executive order released Friday, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said this is to allow devotees to participate in online activities for the Traslacion of the Black Nazarene.

Domagoso also prohibited the sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverages within the Quiapo area.

The traditional procession of the Black Nazarene image was canceled this year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Authorities have only allowed 400 churchgoers and devotees to enter Quiapo Church for each of the 15 masses to be held on Saturday.
