Motorcycle rider dead, 6 hurt in CamSur road mishap

LEGAZPI CITY — A motorcycle rider was killed while six other people were injured when a cargo truck rammed several motorcycles and vehicles on Thursday afternoon in Pamplona town in Camarines Sur province, a police report said Friday.

Police Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said motorcycle driver Bebot Namalangkay, a resident of Barangay (village) 649, Port Area, Manila, died while being taken to the Bicol Medical Center (BMC) in Naga City.

Police said an Isuzu Truck was traveling through the junction at a highway in Barangay Tambo, at around 2:47 p.m, when its driver Reynaldo Gaza, 44 and a resident of Daet, Camarines Norte, lost control due to brake failure and hit several motorcycles, two cargo trucks, a Toyota Vios, and a Hilux utility vehicle.

Wounded in the accident were Jeron Osario, 47, Cristina Pumparada, 41, both of Lumban town in Laguna province; Roy Merciano, 37, Ace Dave Merciano from Pasacao town, Jesthony Tayoto, 31 and Rosemarie Tayoto, of Pamplona town, also in Camarines Sur. All of the injured were also taken to BMC for treatment.

Meanwhile, truck driver Gaza was taken into custody by Pamplona police while the investigation on the incident continues.
