Correction box published in INQUIRER Feb. 1, 2012 Issue

IN THE JAN. 25 ISSUE, a headline on the front-page windows—“20 fishermen killed in Basilan”—misstated the number of fishermen killed in Basilan. Navy reports earlier placed the number of fatalities at 20, but Mayor Belman Mantos of San Pablo town in Zamboanga del Sur said fishermen who responded to a radio distress call counted 15—not 20—bodies in three fishing boats.

IN THE JAN. 29 ISSUE, the front-page story—“Leading lights of trial are older, wiser”—carried this erroneous lead paragraph: “Older and definitely wiser. This best describes the leading lights in the current trial to impeach Chief Justice Renato Corona.” The aim of the Senate trial is to determine Corona’s guilt or innocence in relation to the articles of impeachment filed against him. Corona was already impeached by the House of Representatives on Dec. 12, 2011.

IN THE JAN. 30 ISSUE, a story on Page A4—“7 Wonders tag shows no need for mining–Palawan bishop”—misspelled the name of an agricultural community in Palawan. The agricultural community is Brooke’s—not Brook’s—Point.
