55 new COVID-19 cases surface in Isabela

CITY OF ILAGAN—At least 55 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in Isabela province on Wednesday (Jan. 6), authorities said.

The new cases brought to 317 the total in the province, according to records at the provincial health office.

Twenty of the new cases were in this city while 13 were in Santiago City.

The other 10 cases were logged in Cauayan City, three in Tumauini town, two each in the towns of San Mariano and Gamu and one each in the towns of Delfin Albano, Benito Soliven, Quezon, Quirino and Aurora.

Health officials said the cases included that of a returning overseas Filipino worker, three persons who defied local quarantine rules, 16 health workers, 28 police officers and 269 cases of local transmission.

Eleven other police officers had been earlier infected with SARS Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, in Cauayan City. One of them had died.

Capt. Fernando Mallillin, police chief of Burgos town, has also contracted the virus and was quarantined at a local facility in the town.

He publicly admitted that he was infected with but assured villagers that the police station had already been disinfected.
