Amihan brings cold winds in Luzon; ITCZ may cause rain showers in Mindanao — Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or amihan continues to bring cold winds in Luzon, while the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) may trigger rain showers in most of Mindanao on Wednesday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

According to Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz, the cold winds brought by the northeast monsoon can be felt more in Luzon from midnight to morning and in the evening.

“Prevailing pa rin at dominante ang northeast monsoon o amihan dito naman sa Luzon. Dala nito ang malamig na simoy ng hangin na mas ramdam sa madaling araw hanggang umaga at maging sa dakong gabi,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz said.

(The northeast monsoon or amihan is still dominant in Luzon. It brings cold winds that could be felt more at midnight until morning and even at night.)

Based on Pagasa’s forecast, the northeast monsoon will also bring cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The tail-end of a frontal system, on the other hand, will bring cloudy skies with rains and thunderstorms in Albay, Sorsogon, Catanduanes and Samar provinces.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also due to the northeast monsoon.

Meanwhile, the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in Caraga, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

“Aktibo pa rin ang ITCZ sa Mindanao at sanhi pa rin ito ng mga kaulapan na namumuo at dumadaan sa katimugang bahagi ng ating bansa. Maaaari pa rin ‘yang magdulot ng pag-ulan at pagkidlat, pagkulog, sa malaking bahagi ng Mindanao,” Dela Cruz said.

(The ITCZ is still active in Mindanao and it still causes clouds to form in the southern part of the country. It may still cause rains and thunderstorms in a large portion of Mindanao.)

No low pressure area is currently being monitored by Pagasa, according to Dela Cruz.
