COVID-19 kills 3 more persons in Quezon, raising death toll there to 196

LUCENA CITY—The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death toll in Quezon province has risen to 196 with the death of three patients on Tuesday (Jan. 5).

The Integrated Provincial Health Office, in its 5 p.m. report, said two of the fatalities were from here and the third was from Tayabas City.

Lucena, the provincial capital, had the highest number of fatalities—47.

The updated fatality report showed a total of eight COVID-19 deaths five days into the new year.

Last Monday (Jan. 4), four COVID-19 patients had been added to the death toll—one each from the town of Candelaria and Tayabas City and two from the town of Lopez.

Last Sunday (Jan. 3), one patient died in Unisan town.

Quezon, which remains on modified general community quarantine, logged a total of 6,287 COVID-19 cases and 5,835 recoveries since the pandemic broke out in March 2019.

At least 20 areas in 41 towns in the province no longer have any COVID-19 cases, health office records showed.

The health office said at least 256 people are still sick with COVID-19.
