BAGUIO CITY — Cadets at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) were among those infected with the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), an official of the military school confirmed on Monday.
Major Cheryl Tindog, PMA spokesperson, said the cadets were asymptomatic and treated at isolation facilities inside the academy.
But Tindog did not say how many of the 37 virus-infected patients there were cadets. She assured their parents that “their health and needs are being attended to by PMA.”
Also infected were civilian human resource and organic military personnel following expanded RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests facilitated by the military and the Philippine Coast Guard, Tindog said.
“These cases were properly reported and coordinated with (Baguio) health officials. The patients are being treated, their close contacts traced and isolated, and further spread has been contained,” Tindog said in a statement.
The infections happened even as PMA had locked down the military campus as early as February last year to spare the cadets from the virus.
