959 more infected with COVID-19; PH cases now at 478,761

MANILA, Philippines — The total COVID-19 cases in the country reached 478,761 as 959 more have contracted SARS-CoV-2, the Department of Health (DOH) reported Monday.

In its daily case bulletin, DOH said the drop in the number of additional cases is due to a “decrease in the number of patients seen in COVID-19 laboratories during the New Year.”

The new cases bring the number of active cases to 21,219 or 4.4% of the total tally.

Quezon City recorded the highest number of new cases with 73, followed by Davao City with 70, Rizal with 58, Agusan del Sur 44, and Laguna with 41.

DOH also reported 26 new COVID-19 survivors, raising the recovery count to 448,258. Meanwhile, six more people died of the respiratory disease, bringing the death count to 9,263.

The health agency warned the public against complacency as it noted that an increase in cases in the coming weeks is still possible.
