‘Be careful, vigilant’: Vico Sotto warns vs fake news, fake quotes

MANILA, Philippines — Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto on Monday told the public to be vigilant on social media as fake news remain rampant online.

He issued the remark as he dubbed as “fake news” a photo supposedly quoting him on who to vote for in the next elections.

The fake post read, “Lesson yan sa inyo na kung boboto kayo sa susunod, ang inyong iboboto ‘yung hindi minumura ang God, at hindi sinungaling, hindi rapist, hindi mass killer, hindi magnanakaw.”

“New year na new year ang dami nang fake news,” Sotto said in a Twitter post.

“Please be careful and vigilant on social media. Tandaan natin kung gaano kadali gumawa ng pekeng balita o mag-imbento ng quote. #fakequotes,” he added.
