MANILA, Philippines — A pre-dawn fire hit a motel in Quiapo, Manila Wednesday, killing at least two people, authorities said.
One of the fire officcials who requested anonumity because he wasn’t authorized to talk to media said the fire started on the second floor of the Red Apple Motel on Raon Street, corner Quezon Boulevard at 5:25 a.m. and reached third alarm before it was declared out around 6:50 a.m.
He said that one of the victims was burned to death on the second floor, while the other died from suffocation on the fifth floor.
Three people were rescued on the fourth and fifth floors, the officer said.
He said the victims have yet to be identified, as well as the cause and amount of damage.
