Pinoys in Libya get free face shields from PH

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — At least 5,000 pieces of face shields donated by Filipino leaders have reached Filipino medical frontliners in Libya, the Philippine Embassy’s Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Mission Elmer Cato said on Sunday.

Cato, who was at Clark Freeport, thanked Pampanga Vice Gov. Lilia Pineda and Converge ICT chief executive officer Dennis Anthony Uy for the donation.

Sen. Manuel Lapid, members of Foreign Service Officers Batch IX of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Multisectoral Alliance of Filipino Migrant Workers in Libya, and the Filipino Community in Benghazi covered the cost of shipping to Libya where more than 2,000 Filipinos live and work.

Cato said nurses and hospital workers consist almost half the number of Filipinos working in Libya, which has recorded more than 100,000 infections by the virus causing COVID-19 since March.

He said the face shields are also being distributed to Filipinos working in the oil and gas sectors as well as in academic institutions.

The Embassy also received personal protective equipment from the Clark Development Corp. and the Clark-based garment firm Luen Thai.
