CABARROGUIS, Quirino — The decomposing body of a policeman missing since Dec. 29 was found floating along the Addalam River at Barangay Cabugao in Aglipay, Quirino on Saturday, police said.

Police Brig. Gen. Crizaldo Nieves, Cagayan Valley regional police director, identified the body as Police Chief Master Sergeant Dexter Manicap Altre, who was assigned to the Maddela police station in the province.

“We are saddened by (the death) that has befallen one of our men and we will not stop at nothing to find out the truth behind his death,” Nieves said.

Police said the body was spotted by a villager who was gathering animal grass around 12:45 p.m. Cabugao village chief Frederick Galam then reported the incident to the Aglipay police.

Altre’s body had been autopsied to determine the cause of his death. But investigators said he was shot and killed based on bullet wounds on his body.

The victim’s son, Denver, has positively identified his body.
