CITY OF CALAPAN – A man from Lucena City, Quezon province who had been floating for five days in a capsized fishing vessel was rescued off the shores of Calapan City Saturday morning.

Oriental Mindoro Maritime Police and the Philippine Coast Guard Calapan rescued Maximo de Jesus in the waters off Barangay (village) Parang in this city at about 7:15 a.m., said Police Major Nelson Ventura, deputy regional chief of Oriental Mindoro Maritime Police, in a phone interview.

A resident of Barangay Dalahican in Lucena City, de Jesus was stranded on his capsized motor banca, which was brought by the current to the seawaters of this city.

The motor banca capsized due to strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rains and it had been floating on water for five days, said Ventura.

As of Saturday, de Jesus is in Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital for first aid and medical examinations.
