JBC to come up with shortlist of candidates for 2 Supreme Court posts

MANILA, Philippines – The Judicial Bar Council (JBC) will come up with its shortlist of candidates for the two Supreme Court positions to be vacated by Associate Justices Antonio Eduardo Nachura and Conchita Carpio-Morales.

Associate Justice Antonio Eduardo Nachura will retire on June 13 while Conchita Carpio Morales will retire on June 19.

“We are expecting the JBC to come up with a shortlist for the two vacancies on June 21 during their deliberation,” Supreme Court Spokesman Jose Midas Marquez said.

The Supreme Court last week recommended to the JBC seven Court of Appeals Justices to be considered for the position – Presiding Associate Justice Andres Reyes, Associate Justices Bienvenido Reyes, Jose Reyes, Magdangal de Leon, Remedios Salazar-Fernando, Estrella Bernabe, Noel Tijam.

Once the shortlist has been submitted to President Benigno Aquino III, he has 90 days, as stated under Article 8 Section 9 of the Constitution to make his choice.
