LEGAZPI CITY –– Heavy rains, which have been pouring since Thursday, New Year’s eve, spawned by the tail-end of a frontal system triggered floods and landslide that hit several towns and cities in Bicol, sending close to 40 families to evacuation centers in the provinces of Camarines Sur and Sorsogon, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said on Friday.
Gremil Alexis Naz, OCD Bicol spokesperson, said flooding incidents were reported in 12 villages in the towns of Juban, Casiguran, Bulusan, Gubat. Matnog, and Bulan in Sorsogon province.
Floods also hit 10 villages in the towns of Lagonoy, Siruma, Ocampo, and Buhi in Camarines Sur.
In Legazpi City, rains submerged Vel Amor subdivision, a low lying urban village, with two feet deep floodwater.
At least 11 landslides were also reported in nine villages in the towns of Bulusan, Gubat, Juban, and Sorsogon City, while another landslide happened in Barangay Malinao in Libmanan and Genorangan in Lagonoy, all in Camarines Sur.
Two flights from Manila to Naga Airport in Pili, Camarines Sur were canceled on Thursday due to bad weather conditions, the OCD said.
