MANILA, Philippines — Rains will persist on the first day of 2021 in most parts of the country, particularly the Bicol region due to the tail-end of frontal system, the state weather bureau said Friday.
“Simula kahapon ay nakapagpatala ng malalakas na ulan dyan sa Bicol region dulot ng tail-end ng frontal system at magpapatuloy ‘yan ngayong araw,” Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Ariel Rojas said in an ealry morning update.
(Since yesterday, we have recorded heavy rains in the Bicol region because of the tail-end of frontal system and that will persist until today.)
The tail-end of a frontal system, as well as the easterlies, will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over southern Quezon, the rest of the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) region as well as the Caraga and Davao regions in Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is currently affecting weather conditions over most parts of Luzon, and will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora and the rest of Quezon.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains also due to the “amihan”.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
No weather disturbance is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility within the first five days of the new year, Rojas said.
