Duterte urged to name union reps in key agencies
MANILA, Philippines — The country’s biggest labor coalition Nagkaisa pressed Malacañang to appoint workers’ representatives in the boards of the Social Security System, Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) and Employees Compensation Commission (ECC) in compliance with international conventions.
“It appears that during his administration, no workers’ representatives from trade unions were appointed to the existing post reserved for the workers in the Social Security Commission, Philhealth, ECC, etc.,” said Sonny Matula, president of Federation of Free Workers (FFW).
The coalition includes FFW, Partido Manggagawa, Sentro ng mga Nagkakaisa at Progresibong Manggagawa, Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, Public Services Labor Independent Confederation and 40 other trade unions.
