Stray bullet kills woman

A 61-year-old woman was killed by a stray bullet fired by a man in the middle of  a shootout with his brother in barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City, last Monday night.

Juanita Ramirez  died on the spot from a gunshot wound in the back.

Police said it was Romeo Cabatino, 34, whose gun hit the woman.  Romeo  was arrested by tanods after the incident, while his 38-year-old brother Edward fled.

Police said the two brothers argued in their house on Spolarium Street past 6 p.m.

When  Romeo  went out of the house to buy barbecue, Edward followed and fired a shot at him.

Romeo fired back but hit his female neighbor instead.

The woman was in the area to buy food, said SPO4 Alex Dacua, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office.

Man jumps out of  multicab, dies

A 48-YEAR-OLD man died after he jumped off a moving multicab jeepney in barangay Binongkalan, Catmon town, northern Cebu.

Police said Isidro Mollon lost his balance when he hopped off the vehicle and hit his head on the concrete pavement.

The  man had boarded a Suzuki multicab  on his way to the house of his brother.

The driver,  Armando Perez, told police that he slowed down  the multicab when the man asked him to pull over.

Before the vehicle came to a full stop, the passenger  jumped off.

He lost his balance and fell on the pavement.

Mollon was brought to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod town but did not make it alive.   Police said Perez and the family reached an amicable settlement./CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

Woman with drugs nabbed

POLICE arrested a 45-year-old woman after packs of suspected shabu were found in her bag  at a checkpoint in barangay Bang-Bang, Cordova town,  Mactan Island, Cebu.

Police said Evangeline Sanchez was driving a motorcycle that was flagged down  by police past 4 p.m. last Monday.

Upon inspection, police found nine sachets of suspected shabu in her bag, said PO3 Manfred Maarat of the Cordova police station.

Sanchez first resisted arrest then later admitted owning the packs. /CORRESPONDENT RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL

Man killed in Tejero

A MAN was shot dead in barangay Tejero, Cebu City, early morning yesterday.

Police said the killing of Manuel Salvador, 39, could be drug-related.

Salvador was shot several times.

At least four empty shells of a .45 pistol were recovered in the crime scene.

Police said they found two packs of suspected shabu and several ATM cards in his possession.
