LUCENA CITY –– At least 16 of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province no longer have any recorded coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on Thursday.
In its 10 a.m. report on Dec. 31, the IPHO said the localities now free of COVID-19 cases are the island towns of Alabat, Quezon, Perez, Jomalig, Panukulan, Patnanungan, and Burdeos; and the municipalities of San Andres, San Narciso, Pitogo, Macalelon, Mulanay, Agdangan, General Nakar, Padre Burgos, and Atimonan.
Those previously infected in these municipalities have either recovered or had died, the report showed.
On Oct. 19, all Quezon municipalities had COVID-19 patients after the coastal town of San Andres, which had managed to remain virus-free since the pandemic was declared in early March, recorded its first confirmed case.
Quezon, which is under the modified general community quarantine, has been seeing a continued decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases that dropped to 268 on Thursday morning.
The province’s highest daily tally of active virus carriers was 1,119 on Nov. 12. It fell to 760 by the end of November.
Lucena City, the capital of the province, has also been showing a continued decline in the number of active cases.
The city has 42 cases as of Thursday. The highest tally in the city was 279 on Oct. 21. It fell to 147 on Nov. 30.
The death toll from COVID-19 in Quezon stands at 188.
