Comelec to resume listup on Jan. 4

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will resume the continuing registration of voters from Jan. 4 until Sep. 30, 2021, as provided in promulgated rules for Republic Act No. 8189, or the Voter’s Registration Act of 1996, and other related laws.

“If you missed the last day of #VoterReg2020, don’t despair just yet. #VoterRegistration will resume on January 4, 2021. #MakeAPlanToRegister then,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez posted on Twitter.

Those who intend to register must be Filipino citizens at least 18 years of age on or before May 9, 2022, a resident of the Philippines for at least one year, a resident of the place where she proposes to vote for at least six months prior to May 9, 2022, and not otherwise disqualified by law.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Comelec also allowed eligible Filipinos to submit applications through the poll body’s iRehistro portal.

But the Comelec clarified that submitting applications through the iRehistro portal does not mean automatic approval and an aspiring voter still has to personally appear before the nearest Comelec office (or Philippine Embassy or consulate) for QR scanning and biometrics capture.
