MANILA, Philippines — Sulu province will be under lockdown from January 4 to 17, 2021 to prevent the entry of the new COVID-19 variant, Governor Abdusakur Tan confirmed Wednesday.

This means that returning residents and overseas Filipino workers (OFW) are barred from entering the province, Tan said in a televised briefing.

“Maglolockdown tayo na walang puwedeng pumasok na mga LSI [locally stranded individuals], na mga OFW, di pwede pumasok at saka mga returning residents pag di naman sila mga frontliners,” Tan said.

(We will have a lockdown where no LSI, OFW or returning resident will be allowed to enter if they are not frontliners.)

“Ang authorized lang ang mga uniformed [personnel] at health workers,” he added.

(Only uniformed personnel and health workers willbbe allowed to enter the province.)

Earlier, Tan also sought to suspend the repatriation of undocumented Filipinos from Sabah over the threat of the new COVID-19 variant.

The new COVID-19 variant, said to be more infectious, emerged from the United Kingdom.
