MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies with possible rain showers are expected in most parts of the country on Wednesday, according to the state weather bureau.

In its 5 a.m. live weather update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is currently affecting extreme Northern Luzon.

Meanwhile, most parts of Luzon, particularly in the eastern section of Northern and Central Luzon, are currently affected by the tail-end of a frontal system.

Pagasa is also monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility, that was last monitored at 1,275 kilometers east of Mindanao.

Pagasa weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said the LPA is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone.

“Samantalang yung isang LPA na binabantayan natin kahapon na lumabas ng Philippine area of responsibility nung isang araw ay nag-dissipate na po o nawala at naging sheer line na po siya at sumama na po sa tail-end of frontal system,” Ignacio said of another LPA previously monitored by Pagasa.

(The other LPA lthat eft the Philippine area of responsibility the other day has dissipated and banded into the tail-end of a frontal system.)

The trough or extension of the current LPA outside Mindanao, as well as the tail-end of the frontal system, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon and Bicol Region.

The trough will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao region.

The “amihan”, according to Pagasa, will bring cloudy skies with rains over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
