LUCENA CITY –– Six more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients died in Quezon province even as the number of active cases continued to drop, authorities reported Tuesday.
The new deaths bring the total number of fatalities in the province to 187.
In its 10 a.m. bulletin on Dec. 29, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) disclosed that a validated COVID-19 patient died in Calauag town.
On Monday, another five patients died in Lucban town, the highest tally of fatalities in a single day from a locality.
Meanwhile, the continued decline of active COVID-19 cases has been noted, dropping to 298 as of Tuesday.
The province’s highest tally of active COVID-19 cases was 1,119 on Nov. 12. It fell to 760 by the end of November.
As of Tuesday, Lucena City, the provincial capital, has 44 active virus carriers. The highest tally of active COVID-19 cases in the city was 279 on Oct. 21 and dropped to 147 on Dec. 1.
Quezon logged a total of 6,146 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic was declared in early March, but 5,661 of them had recuperated.
The IPHO records show that at least 384 persons suspected of infection were confined in hospitals. At least 367 were on home quarantine as of Monday.
At least 11 of the 41 municipalities in Quezon province no longer have any active COVID-19 cases.
Those previously infected in the localities have either recovered or died, the report said.
