CITY OF SAN FERNANDO –– Philippine National Police chief Gen. Debold Sinas gave the Central Luzon police at least 500 Galil Ace 5.56 basic assault rifles in Camp Olivas here on Monday.

The rifles would “boost and capacitate the firepower of mobile force personnel to assure the safety of the public against criminal elements and criminal terrorist groups,” Brig. Gen Valeriano de Leon, regional police director, said in a statement.

Sinas did not mention the cost of the rifles and when these were procured.

He led the blessing of two container vans-turned-quarantine facilities, increasing the regional police camp’s isolation areas to 44.

Since May, around 100 cops assigned in checkpoints have reportedly been infected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Sinas held a command conference with provincial and city police directors after the blessing.
