Cop shot dead in Cagayan de Oro City

ILIGAN CITY—A 42-year-old policeman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen past 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 26, in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.

Police Captain Julius Saluta, chief of the Agora police station in Cagayan de Oro City, said Patrolman Roy Aguas just left his boarding house in Lapasan village on a motorcycle when he was shot by the gunmen who were aboard a motorcycle as he approached a vulcanizing shop.

“He was about to park near a vulcanizing shop when men riding in tandem suddenly appeared and shot him,” Saluta said.

Aguas died after being shot five times to the head, police said.

Investigators found five spent .45 caliber shells, and a caliber .45 slug, Saluta said.

A resident of Aloran town in Misamis Occidental, Aguas was detailed at the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU) 10 in Camp Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City, and had been part of the augmentation forces of police station 4 in Barangay Carmen when he was shot.

Before this assignment, Aguas worked at the Valencia police station in Bukidnon.

Police Captain Francisco Sabud, public information officer of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 10, said probers are still trying to identify the suspects.

“We will request owners of establishments in the area to give us the footage of their CCTV (close circuit television) camera. We appreciate the importance of CCTV (in times like this). It is a big help in solving the crime,” Sabud said.

Aguas’ body is still at a funeral home in Cagayan de Oro City and will be brought to his hometown in Aloran town after the autopsy, according to Saluta. Divina Suson, Inquirer Mindanao
