MANILA, Philippines — Scattered to widespread rain will be experienced in the eastern part of Luzon and the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) region as the country remains affected by the effects of two low-pressure areas (LPA) and the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” the state weather bureau said on Sunday.
Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) as of Sunday afternoon said the two LPAs are still being monitored — one located 355 kilometers west of Cuyo in Palawan, and another 80 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon.
Cloud bands brought by these LPAs, coupled with the amihan, will trigger light to moderate rains over Cagayan Valley, parts of Central Luzon especially Aurora, and areas of Rizal and Quezon.
“Ingat po ang mga kababayan natin sa mga posibleng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa and hopefully ‘yong kanila pong mga local government units and disaster risk reduction managers ay naka-coordinate na po nila para sa disaster preparedness and mitigation measures,” senior weather specialist Chris Perez said.
(We urge people to be ready for possible floods and landslides and hopefully, they have coordinated with their respective local government units and disaster risk reduction managers for disaster preparedness and mitigation measures.)
Earlier, the provincial government of Cagayan showed photos of roads that were flooded again by rain dumped by the three weather systems.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon including Metro Manila, and Eastern Visayas may also see cloudy skies and occasional rain due to the prevailing weather systems.
The rest of Visayas and Mindanao may expect fair weather, but Pagasa is not ruling out the possibility of isolated rain and thunderstorms especially in the afternoons and evenings.
More areas are expected to be affected by the LPAs on Monday, with the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region also seeing rain at the start of the week.
Temperatures in Tuguegarao will remain low due to the rains and the monsoon, ranging from just 23 to 28 degrees Celsius. In Baguio, it would be around 15 to 24 degrees, 24 to 31 degrees in Laoag, Puerto Princesa, and Legazpi, and 25 to 31 degrees in Metro Manila.
Down south, temperatures may hover around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius in Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban; while it would be slightly hotter in Davao and Zamboanga at 25 to 33 degrees.
A gale warning has also been raised over the seaboards of Northern Luzon, which includes waters of the Ilocos provinces, Batanes, Cagayan, Babuyan Islands, and Isabela; plus Quirino, Aurora, and the coastlines of General Nakar, Polillio Islands, and northern and eastern Catanduanes.
Fisherfolk is advised against sailing in these areas as sea condition may be rough to very rough in the coming hours.
