A nineteen-year-old woman from Melbourne, Australia, has been banned by multiple airlines for posting a terror attack “joke” on the video sharing platform TikTok.
The woman can no longer fly with Jetstar Airways, Qantas Airways and Virgin Australia Airlines following her supposed joke about committing a terrorist attack, as per a Facebook post by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) on Dec. 23.
The law enforcement agency did not mention the woman’s identity in their report, although it stated that the woman posted the video on TikTok while she was boarding a flight from Melbourne to Queensland.
The video, as per the AFP, prompted multiple calls to Australia’s National Security Hotline and swift action from AFP, the Victoria Police and the Queensland Police Service.
“Regardless of intent, jokes about committing a terrorist attack and airline security are never a laughing matter and may have unintended consequences,” warned AFP.
The AFP has urged those who may have information about extremist activities and possible threats to the community to report what they know to the National Security Hotline, regardless of how small or trivial they think their information is. JB
